WORKSHOPS: SPREAD THE LOVE

Condiments are notorious hiding places for added sugars, unhealthy oils, high amounts of refined salt, and genetically engineered food products. Even the majority of organic condiments have “natural flavoring” added. It sounds so harmless, but it isn’t.

How healthy are your condiments? Take a minute now and grab any condiment from your fridge or pantry. Chances are it has one of the following: high fructose corn syrup, a refined oil like canola, sunflower or safflower, refined salt rather than sea salt, or a derivative of soy, and of course “natural flavoring”. So what’s a person that loves their condiments to do? Make your own!

I’ve always been a mayo lover and the thought of giving up my Hellman’s was a big step. Getting my husband to give up his Heinz ketchup…well, we’re still working on that. Regardless of which condiment is your favorite, it is possible to make a homemade version that is just as tasty minus the preservatives and added colorings and flavorings.

So how about it? Are you ready to try your hand at homemade condiments so you can feel good about dipping and spreading again?
